Friend of mine who fosters dogs that are rescued from kill shelters asked me to take a few pictures of the 8 week old puppy she just got. Most of the pictures taken of the fosters are on cell phone cameras or crappy point and shoots.

Comments? Any suggestions for improvements? The point of the pictures is to give prospective owners high quality views online.

Were the last two taken at a late time of day? They look like they were and then had the headlights of a car for lighting.

The sun was just going down, so I had my shoe-mount flash on, with diffuser.

On #2 the rest of the sunlight is on her face, the rest is flash.

The better quality photos does help dogs get adopted quicker. And the more you can bring out the puppy's personality in the photo, the better.

I'm a vet tech, and when we have new owners coming in who've adopted a dog they found online, I hear alot of "she just looked so cute in the photo", or "those sad eyes just got me", or "she looked like such a sweet, happy dog"...

I think they look good, If I didn't already have 3 rescued dogs and a cat this would be an adorable pup to add. There are many dogs and cats that would make wonderful family pets, this is a great cause.

I think that's a really great cause for your photography--and not just for the puppy, but for every animal that's in the kill shelter. Keep up the good work! :)

This is a wonderful thing your doing. In fact, you have inspired me to contact some of my local shelters and offer free pictures of their animals as well.

Sorry, I peeked at the rest of your photos.. :p

I like this one. He/She looks spunky, and playful. :)

I know you probably don't know this, and I'm not trying to be a dink... Buuuuuut, it's against TPF's rules to post images that are not yours. However, linking to images is fine. I know that Adversus is listed right below the photo, but this is just for future reference.

Oops! Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for the replies all :)

It's a good idea to do it more frequently, my friend and I have talked about, and I'll probably be shooting most of her fosters if she keeps doing it until they get adopted.

And I had a blast doing it :)

Hijacking my own thread!

The FAQ states: You agree to only post images and/or other material to which you have exclusive copyright, or permission from the copyright holder that you are able to present to TPF Staff.

My photos on flickr are all CC licensed, Attribution which her link did. So that would still be fine via the FAQ, right? Or am I interpreting that incorrectly.

Hey folks,

Sydney is my foster. Chris has taken some incredible shots of my dogs, so I asked him to help get this little girl adopted. After seeing the photos on Petfinder, compared to this - it's just so important.

I think that I asked him to get pictures that would make people "oooh" and "aaah" and really want to adopt Sydney.

I think he succeeded.

I'm so psyched to see this inspire others to help out with photos for local rescues! It's usually the foster parents that have to get the shots; in my case, I have a decent camera, but no actual skill - and no ability to keep the puppy far enough away from me to get a decent shot.

Oh, and MonicaBH - I recognized you from over on DogForums, I'm Namrah over there. Been jealous of your rotties for awhile. =)

I hope Chris will share more photos of the fosters as he takes them.

Anyhow, thanks all for the comments about Sydney. And thanks Chris for taking such great photos and helping me out. =)
