I understand that, but there will be other countries that will gladly accept low wages, because they are making even less at the moment. The real question is, will the people be complaining that they must purchase a $250 grip as opposed to a $25 grip now that the Chinese will no longer make them? The people that complain of low quality goods are the same ones that will complain about Nikon's absurd pricing. You can't have it both ways...

If the Chinese start demanding better working conditions and better wages (some already have), and prices go up as a result - good.

I don't know about everyone else, but I would rather buy a product made by willing and skilled labor than de facto indentured servants. If I have to pay a little more for it, so be it.

Oh no, I fully agree with you. But the people who buy the products, have some issue with them, and then speak of how we need to invest in our own economy are hypocritical. I believe we need to invest in our economy, and I believe the Chinese working conditions are incredibly poor and immoral, but I don't think its right to slander the entire Chinese nation due to this. It irritates me when the people who bash the product's quality are the same ones who complain of overpriced American goods.

Agreed...On a side note tho, it's true we are not stupid people. Someone here said we are educated enough to realize that when something is selling for $200 and we buy a fake for $10... You do end up getting what you pay for. If you make smart purchases than yea it's gonna go a long way. If Nikon is selling their 100mm at $800 and their 50 at $500 and suddenly u see that converter online for $30 than of course u are gonna get a **** product. But let's not forget, some of the best Nikon glass comes from china, the 50, new 1.8's. As for things made in the good ole US of A, you are forgetting that for the label to say made in USA, only a certain percentage has to be manufactured here and raw materials can come from any goddamn place in the world and most time it does!!!!

Wow that's a silly statement... The only people who make such a statement either don't know what they are talking about or simply justifying their own actions.

Wealth of Nations followed by Communist Manifesto and compared to the current situation in China and here in the US (don't think black and white but all nations are shades of gray).

The key here is competition.. you want more of it but more importantly... FAIR competition. With only limited government intervention to protect life and liberty.

Here's somewhat of a brain dead example... In history, there have been cases of competition for projects between prison and private labor. Short answer.. its not capitalism.. in fact... its the worst threat to capitalism.

There is more to free market capitalism than just a single individual saving a few bucks. Unchecked any system can be repressive.... yes.. including ours.

Will you sell me your camera, or - hell, give it to me then - because I can almost guarantee you it wasn't made in the USA, Germany, or Japan.

Even "Japanese" cameras are not made in Japan.

The only problem I have with genuine products is when the profit margins are daylight robbery for the consumer. They are really creating a market for china when apple prices a single sock at 40$ or the wall charger at 35$ that you can get for under 2$ from china. And how can you justify selling lens hoods for 20-100$, they are a piece if plastic that should come with the lens. I wish for all the best for the people of china, but the way things are going their market on cheap products is only going to grow.

Let me clear this USA made thing up.i will and do pay more for a lodge cast iron pan which is made in USA verses a china made half price cast iron pan if a camera were made in the USA I would buy it over a China made camera even if it were 300.00 more
