I was out on my deck the other night and decided to try some of what I've been reading about on the Strobist.com site, mainly reguarding lighting between ambient and flash. Set up is a SB-700 on my D80 18-55mm kit lense (I know, not strobist stuff, but I don't like the way the commander mode works, and I haven't gotten remote triggers yet...so there:greenpbl:), I put the flash in manual mode, powered it down a decent amount and most of what I was shooting was bare flash shot directly at my big dog. CC appritiated, thanks, Ben.

Either that kid is really small or that dog is HUGE!! I liked the first one better as the second one has the baby partially blocked by the dog. But, I have to know... just how big is that dog?

Well you are correct, Kash is an English Mastiff and he weighs about 190-200lbs, and is a baby. My personal take on the first is I like the composition of it, all of Kash is in the shot, I didn't get that with others, cut off his feet (see pic 2). I liked the lighting in pic 2 though, that's why it's here. But thanks for the feedback.

Lighting in pic 2 looks pretty flat, the kids face could be mistaken for thinking it is with a pop-up flash. #1 could use more light on the dark areas of the dog.

Thanks for the feedback, baturn I might be using commander mode incorrectly, however the part I don't like is the fact that the pop-up flash has to fire inorder to fire the sb-700. If there is a way to not use the pop-up to fire the OCF, please enlighten me because I've looked through both manuals and can't find crap on it.

misstwinckleytoes, I'm kinda fond of the big guy I think I'll keep him. Not to mention the fact that my son likes him too.
