I got to photograph this hulk again yesterday. He's gotten even bigger since the last time we did a shoot together. I'm experimenting a bit with my color toning; neither shot are meant to really match. Instead I just sort of went with what I thought looked best for the individual shots.

I love 98% of the image. I feel like there is something amiss, though. I am inclined to think it is the backlighting. What it seems to do for me is force my eye away from his face (and the rest of his physique) and I seem to only be able to stare directly at that vertical line right between his pecks. Although, maybe that's amplified by the three glasses of wine I've had... Same model, same pose, slightly different background and I think it would take it from really good to awesome. I also love the colors, particularly the amber tones in the background.

I, for one, happen to like the strong backlighting in the first shot. It does not distract from the main image at all- in fact it reinforces the dymanic subject matter.
The second shot is extremely well lit with great use of dappled lighting acrosss his torso. Making use of the natural foiliage in the foreground and background really isloates the subject.
These are excellent.
The guy looks like a freakin' Viking....

I actually think the lighting on the model's face works really well in this image. To me, the deep shadows match his facial expression which together to tell me he is looking around in bright light. I wouldn't change a thing!

Thank you. It's always fun to hear people's different takes on photographs. As I was editing that shot I couldn't help but hear a few people from this form saying "needs fill" in my head. I used to hate that sentence, but now in most cases I agree with it lol.

#1. I like the chrome look of the color, makes his body isolate nicely. The back lighting gives him a sense of heightened strength and adds tension.

#2 . The shot is interesting in that it is masculine and feminine at the same time. If had jeans, t-shirt, and a tatty John Deere hat on, it would be all masculine.

That was my nit pick on that photo as well. I like it for it's subtle eroticism, but dislike it for how it slightly disrupts the image harmony.

Love them both.
I, too, saw fire/inferno at first along with the stunning specimen of a man. Then, I started to see the leaves and sunlight instead of flames, and a softness to his expression came through.
World class shots.

Kinda gives it that imperfectly perfect feel.

Thank you. What do you mean by chrome? Are you talking about the shine on his chest?

That’s one of the things I like about the second shot as well. Josh is a very large, tall and intimidating man, so I tried taking some shots that showed more personality and vulnerability rather than having them all be about his muscles.
