Bison - a missed shot?

apologies.

typo

1/800

I believe I had my autofocus set at continuous. I also believe I am simply using single point AF. to be absolutly honest, I am still experimenting with using the different focus point options.

i will decently take the advice here from when i head on on Saturday and try these recommend starting point settings! Thanks TNS

Hi Bill.

Im absolutely looking to take a better shot, rather than improving shots already taken! And sorry for the typo, it was taken at 1/800

I am currently using a Canon Rebel EOS T3

Don't sweat it too much. we all miss shots and chances. Others come along, so no big deal. I've missed thousands of chances and I still smile about it. I plan to miss a ton more yet, not on purpose though :)

Agree with Jason and Bill. drop that shutter speed and that in turn will drop your ISO. Just as a preference I do like a bit more room around a large animal, always nice to give them space, but that's just a preference as said. With smaller subjects that we don't have the ability to see details unless we do crop in a fair bit.

All the best and BTW, still a pretty good shot IMO.

Danny.

I would say the settings were a good choice given the lighting, for the shots where the bison is not moving you could drop the shutter and iso but the noise isn't really bad in these. I would suggest verifying the af settings, number of focus points and type, single or continuous. But in the low light it may have just hunted a little and missed. No worries, you'll get it next time

We've all gone through this phase (I still do sometimes); under the pressure of the moment we don't think through our options and we don't get a shot we want a lot.
Relax, the bison will still be there and there are lots of people here who will give help if needed.

Photography, particularly when the shooter has to manage the controls, is a complicated process; eventually all the changes in settings will become second nature.
