Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I haven't posted much of anything here because, quite frankly, I haven't gotten much better after a year or so now of learning to use my camera. However, I'm going to start posting anyway, starting today!

Let me have it. I know I'm going to have to start taking some C&C to learn anything! What I basically do in PP, not really knowing much yet, is to do a little NR, sharpen a tad, add a touch of contrast and export to wherever. I don't really have an "eye" for art stuff, so tell me how to make it purdier. Thanks!

All in all it's a very nice shot, good composition. I am a little curious as to the settings this was shot at, I wasn't able to see the EXIF data on flickr. The reason I ask, looks like there was plenty of light so I'm curious as to why you'd be shooting at an ISO high enough to require noise reduction.

It was 100 ISO. But I seem to have a terrible time with my 7D and noise. Especially at long focal lengths. I've turned on the exif data.

That's odd.. you shouldn't be getting noise at ISO 100. I'd probably try a couple of test shots by throwing the camera on a tripod, shut off the IS and take a couple of shots in good lighting. See how the images come out, if your seeing noise in them I'd probably see about having the camera looked at.

Fairly nice photo overall although I would have liked the light on his face rather than on his butt/back. I like the contrast between the animal and his surroundings and your composition is not bad at all.

Bison? Although technically right, I don't think I've heard that name used in the US, only in Europe where the bison is smaller and considered by some to be a different species. :)

I used the term "buzzard" here one time and someone said no, it's a vulture! LOL!! They had not heard the term buzzards before. Yeah, we call these buffalo around here.

Also, I usually shoot in Manual mode. It was mostly cloudy today, and the sun was peeping in and out quite a lot at times. I learned the value of Av mode today!!

In America they are often referred to as Buffalo but they are actually Bison, the scientific name for them is Bison bison - granted not terribly imaginative. The European version I'm pretty sure is Bison Bonasus so they are a different variety but they are both Bison. If I remember correctly I think I read something somewhere a few years back about the American Bison was called the bufello by some early settlers because of it's similarity to the Italian water buffalo and the name stuck.

Is this photo a heavy crop; that's had a fair amount of sharpening? It seems so to me. That would explain noise at ISO 100. The eye is a little out of focus as I'd expect from a crop at 5.6 & 200mm if focused on the bison's side. Always focus on the animal's eye and recompose. It's a good photo all the same.

Thanks. I just redid the original in Lightroom, trying to better it. When I published it to Flickr, it messed up the link in original post. The edit is now showing.

I really like the tones in this and the comp is fine IMO. Maybe lower the Bison a tad in the frame, but that's nit picking and fine where it is at the end of the day. ISO 100 is what I try and get, but seldom do for the shutter speeds I need, so if you can get it, keep using it as long as the shutter speed and aperture suit. When I think of Bison from here, this is exactly how I picture them.

All the best and I like it as is to be honest.

Danny.
