these two short-eared owls apparently had a disagreement over who got to hunt in which field, and engaged in a bit of aerial jousting to settle their differences. they did a few feints and parries, and one flew off across the field to go look for supper elsewhere... these didn't come out quite as sharp as i'd have liked, but i'm happy i was able to catch the action!

thanks, John! i'm fortunate to live near a spot where the short-eared owls and harriers hunt regularly, and in numbers. i've actually seen as many as 6 SEOs flying over this meadow at one time, though most are too far off to photograph. but they often fly within 50 yards or so, one or two at a time, which is close enough for photos...

they may not have turned out perfect but who cares with shots like those, there still amazing.
