What's new

Black dot on pictures (now starting to fade)

Ahhh very nice. Same camera and all. How long does a kit like that last?

Don't to what I did. This rookie made the mistake of blowing onto the sensor with the old frontal orifice and ended up strategically placing a couple of microscopic specs of moisture (spit) onto the sensor. Then I had bigger problems that took some serious repetitions of cleaning with proper dust-free q-tips and sensor cleaning fluid to get things back to right. *Never* again will I be that stupid. As I said, rookie.

Ay carumba. Well that's something I know not to do from using sensitive hydraulic filtration systems when I was an airframer in the navy. Yeah don't blow on anything ever lol. Except nintendo games of course.

Jdag - What kit did you get, the quick strips or the pec pads

I got a cleaning kit from a local photography store. It contained q-tip-like swabs with flat cloth on each end and special cleaning solution to drip onto them and run across the sensor surface. There are a number of good ones available, but I'd be hesitant to recommend one. Go down to your local photo specialty store and ask them what their recommendation is. You can also get a sensor professionally cleaned, as I would have done had the place I went to done it in-house. Instead they send it out, which I didn't want to wait the turnaround time.

In all these years, I have never had to clean a digital camera's image sensor. Go figure.

Someone noticed dust spots on one of my recent photo posts, and on a relatively new camera nonetheless! Plus I'm paranoid about keeping every lens covered on both ends as I do my swaps yet somehow I still got some items on the sensor. Made life worse by, as already mentioned, blowing on the sensor.

From what I am reading, D7000 owners have it bad. The sensor's are subject to mirror grease. Which is what I think it is, because it is a large spec. And by large I mean relatively large, because I would say its around 150 microns long.

That's been my experience. It's not so bad though. I usually clean the sensor when it becomes noticable or before a session. Usually about every two months.

Yeah, just so happens my camera got its first spec 3 weeks after ownership. Annoying, but what can you do?
