So I am getting better and selecting settings. I like this shot, still seems to be a lot of noise going on. I kept the ISO as low as i could, as if i am understanding correctly the lower the ISO the clearer the image. So this was shot, I believe as 1/500 800iso and 5.4.

I think the noise could simply be down to the lens quality.

Hope you like :)

and again C&C always taken and appreciated.

Not bad, but it seems a bit underexposed as I would like to see more detail in the birds feathers. Shooting a dark bird against a relatively dark background can be a bit tricky as your in-camera meter always wants to go for the 18% grey thing. I might have opened up 1/2 to 1 stop maybe f/4.5 or even f.4.0. This might blow out the background a bit, but it might help to give you more detail in the birds plumage.

I am not sure when you say that you kept the ISO as low as you could - 800 is not exactly that low - I try to keep my images at an ISO of 400 or less. As far as your comment that "the lower the ISO the clearer the image", this is only partly true if by "clearer", you mean less noise then that is correct, however, the clearness of an image can also be taken to mean that it is in focus and properly exposed. You can also "clean up" a noisy image using noise reduction software.

From a compositional perspective, I might have been tempted to move the bird slightly off centre to the right thirds position. Placing your subject in the centre tends to produce a very static image. I might have cropped a bit off the right side to achieve getting the bird off centre. HTH.
