A new member and first time posting a pic. Here is a shot of a Blue Moon:

Here is a modern definition of a Blue Moon:
One modern blue moon definition is a result of a misinterpretation of the Maine Farmer's Almanac, where a second full moon occurs in a calendar month.

The approach to shooting the moon is to take 2 shots. One such as you have here and the second with the moon perfectly exposed, showing detail etc. You then combine the two shots in photoshop and the result should be something much closer to what your eyes saw.
