Like I said, just playing around. If you've ever heard the phrase, "leaving something to the imagination" then you'll know where I'm coming from.

What do you mean you're not sure why I said that? He gave his informed opinion and he asked me of mine so what is there to not understand? what's more confusing is, who's being unkind? I think you're reading things into what I said.

Edit; I want to say that what I was trying to capture in the photo is what you see when you hold something real close to your face and everything behind it is out of focus and sort of a mystery. I know it's nothing fantastic to mimic but I just wanted to see it in a picture, at least one of my own.

I have seen this technique before.
its a good first go around. The one thing that I would probably try to do is emphasize the actual subject (ergo the crane for example) with a bit more punch to the light, ergo: meter to the subject but focus to the foreground.

I was thinking that also after I saw it on the monitor. I tried increasing the exposure but it didn't look as good to me, it made the blue too bright and washed out and I want the foreground nicely lit, not the opposite. I actually like everything a little dim to create a certain moodiness, maybe I should explain myself up front. I'm also trying to leave something to the imagination so I'm purposely leaving things under exposed.

I like the second shot because of the bold shape of the bird. I was thinking it would be really neat with a butterfly on the grass in the foreground or something else eye catching, but I also appreciate the minimalist vibe the way it is.
