blurry pics w/accessory flash

When I use my accessory flash my pics are blurry. I have a new nikon n80. The pics aren't blurry when using the on-camera flash. Settings on the flash are unchanged. Any thoughts - thanks

The camera has not recognised the flash and is exposing the scene as if it were not lit by flash. The synch speed of the camera will probably be between 1/125th and 1/500th and this should be the speed you shoot at with the flash attached. The onboard flash is automatically acknowledged, but it would appear your accessory one is not.
