On #1 I might have framed the shot with a little more breathing room around the boat on the left and the bottom - there's nothing particularly interesting on the other side of the frame that you're trying to capture, and it would give the shot a less cramped feel. Specifically, I'd probably center the boat vertically, but leave it off-center horizontally such that the mast would lie on the first third. See
