lovely work as always. I like the second photo much more but the first is an awesome use of a gobo/cookie/whatever term you want to use.

I just use available light.

I like these... The use of the pattern of shadows is outstanding. It works well I think against the white T and the lighter tone of the face.

The only thing about a background with a lot of lines or pattern I think is it can make a photo look crooked or tilted even when it isn't (like this, it's straight if you look to the right and top). I find sometimes if the lines are near the edge of the frame it's more noticeable, but I'm not sure if a slight crop or adjustment to the vantage point when you shot it would have made a difference. (And this is damn nitpicky! I drive myself nuts with my own photos with a background with poles, posts etc. trying to decide where I want them).

A lot of people will put something to create shadow patterns between the subject and the light called a "go between" (gobo), cookie (not sure where that one came from) or whatever. I find it hard to pull off just right and I think you did a very nice job of it.
