Bokeh photography?

Prime lenses are the best when it comes to out of focus areas.
Not necessarily. There are many primes that have nervous bokeh. By this I mean the opposite of smooth rendering of the out of focus area. It also depends on the number and shape of the aperture blades.

An example using the 70-200mm.....

I'm a noob at photography but I really love the blurred background effect, is there a lens that I can buy where I don't have to be so far away to focus it and make the background smooth and blurred?
Get Bryan Peterson's book "Understanding Exposure" a.s.a.p.

Well I'm good with general blurred backgrounds

But I just want a lens that I can be a bit closer and still have the same effect
