Bored as rocks......

Trying to play with my new speedlight and here is what I came up with. I haven't done much macro work, and don't have a dedicated lens or extension tubes. This was shot with a homemade softbox on speedlight camera left and My 18-200 lens. It's heavily cropped. I wasn't too sure what to do in post so I added sharpening, a curve and some vibrancy. C&c welcome!

Very nice! You've got the focus, light, and frame, now all you need is some creative color gels to give it some life.

Try a more angled light, say side or beneath. As it is there isn't much texture in this shot.

Unfortunately I don't have any gels, but good idea!

Heck, even some colored cellophane from the craft store would work. Double it once or twice if it isn't intense enough to stand up to your flash.

I wouldn't think so. My speedlight has never been hot to the touch.
