Just purchased the t2i but now I am thinking I should have gone with the 60d. The biggest thing I think I might miss is the additional stops for ISO. How important would these additional steps help me in the future?

What do you plan on shooting?

The extra division of the ISO stops isn't really a big deal. I could see if you wanted a weatherproof and more durable camera with slightly better controls.. but for the ISO stops? They use the exact same sensor. They also have the same (basically) autofocusing abilities, movie recording.. well other stuff too - I just don't see that as a necessary upgrade.

You can unlock the extra stops in ISO with Magic Lantern firmware but it voids the warranty and if you mess it up you might lose the ability to use the T2i at all.

I got a T2i but sometimes I wish I bought a 5Dm2 instead... oh, that's right it was way out of my price range.

Get comfortable with your camera before you start dwelling on its shortcomings.

Except the 60D isn't weatherproof or really any more durable. It's a hybrid, sure, but it doesn't use the magnesium frame that Canon uses in their non-rebels. It's the first XXD not to.

The only differences between the 60D and T2i are a *SLIGHTLY* better autofocusing system (it uses the same system but it was tweaked for the 60D), slightly faster burst fire (I think 5.3 instead of 3.7 or something), the swivel screen (which, for the most part, is useless. If you want a swivel screen don't get an SLR), and it feels more sturdy (not that it is...but feels like it).

As for the ISO abilities...they're identical. The 60D has access to the other stops...but it doesn't actually do a better job of high-ISO than the T2i. Also, much like the 7D, it doesn't handle the "in-between" stops very well at the higher spectrum (for instance, it handles 3200ISO perfectly...but the ones between 1600 and 3200 look worse).

If you already have the T2i...keep it. The differences are negligible between that and the 60D and they're purely additive (none of them affect picture quality).

Really? Wow, I wonder why they did that?

Probably to make more money...

Thanks Derek for the correction, I had just assumed. Kinda disappointed in the brand after hearing that - especially after Nikon released the D7000.

On another note, the 60D may feel better in your hands. I bought a Rebel almost 2 years ago and then a couple weeks later I had the opportunity to use a 50D. It felt significantly better in my hands. I'm 6'4" and have large hands and it was just much easier for me to hold and reach the controls of the 50D. So I returned the Rebel and replaced it with a 50. Just something else to consider, as the xxD line is physically larger than the Rebel line.
