Brand spanking new

Hello everyone
I am brand new to this forum and to photography.
I just had my third baby so I asked for a nice camera (a canon eos) for my birthday to take pictures of my children. I am BRAND new to any of this and would love any feedback, suggestions, etc..

Here is my first picture that I THOUGHT turned out OK. It's nothing like what you all are posting, but it's my first and I am actually ok with it

Cute kid! I am pretty new too, but there are a couple things I notice that could have improved the shot a little. I would have somehow tried to get a little more light from behind or on the backdrop somehow It seems extra dark behind the baby. Also maybe could have zoomed out just a little to not cut off the tip of his head and the bottom of the arm and hand. Just my 2cents. Otherwise really cute shot

Thank you, great tips. I had to work fast with him. But such great tips, thank you and he's got a fro going on his head so I knew I was going to cut some of it off, hehe
