Breakdowns...when?

A question, wanting your opinion! :mrgreen:

Assuming generic, normal, standard, vanilla, garden variety camera owners, who shoot in completely random conditions in a region with uniformly distributed weather, using a random Canon dslr, out of 1000 cameras, how many will have to be sent back to the manufacturer for service/repairs/checkup/whatnot within the first year.

You've probably guessed why I've asked. I'm considering a "grey" market body (since they're the only ones who have stock at the moment - and timing is quite important to me because I'm leaving on a trip within a month! has nothing to do with price.)

I don't know, but I would be shocked if it were as high as 25 per 1,000.

If you look around, you might be able to find some MTBF figures (mean time between failures). I don't know how accurate they might be, but it can give you a rough idea.
