Hi,

I had a misfortune attempting an outside portrait this evening. My camera tipped over while on my tripod:(:( The camera seems to work ok but a couple small flange looking pieces of my lens where it connects to my camera broke. Fortunately the glass is ok and not even scratched and it doesn't look like a major repair.

Any suggestions on where I should get this fixed or just get the part and attempt it myself?? Its a Nikon 55-200 dx VR lens.

thanks

I say fix it yourself if you can get a hold of that piece. It looks like it's just one piece that caps the end, but I'm just going off of the pic.
I'm not sure what they would charge you to take it in, but the lens is going for around $160 used online, so if it's too much to fix, it's not too much to replace.

Sorry... if you call Nikon repair center, they will give you a minimum and maximum repair cost for a certain lens, probably $50-100. You send it in, they look at it and then call you with a precise value

It's dead already, so doing a autopsy isn't going to hurt it. Get some jewelers screwdrivers and see if you can remove the part. If so, you can probably order a replacement and fix it yourself.

Its a little overexposed, and the background needs repairing (no pun intended)

you asked for c&c.... :pimp:

Thats what I was thinking, maybe I could get the part from Nikon?

Edit:
I took the rear part of the lens off and this is the piece that was broken.

Hey........ for the cost to dinner, you might be able to fix it yourself. If you mess it up, I doubt it would cost more to send it in to be fixed. They even provide a how-to vid. Can't beat that, and it's sure better than a poke in the eye with a burning-hot stick.

I actually just had this happen to me with a cannon lens of mine. It is not hard to fix at all and the cost to do is cheap! I was told by a local camera shop that they would have to mail it to cannon for repair and that it would be $125.00 to fix. I went on ebay and actually found the part for $14.99 and free shipping. If you PM me I will give you the information of the seller I got it from and maybe he can help.
