Budget Fx standard length lens?

Alright guys, so my D750 will be here in a few days. Currently only have a 50 1.8 and 70-200 2.8 as far as Full frame lenses go.

Cash is tight for a little bit here... I'm going to be putting a bunch of money into pro fx glass in the coming months, but I need a decent standard length zoom or prime until then.

Budget is like $300-350 max.. can be used or older, but needs AF. Either a 28-70 style zoom or something like a 24 prime?

Doesn't have to be stellar, just want some big to temporarily fill the gap. What's out there?

Look into some of the AF-D series lenses. Many of them, while not in production any more, are still top-notch glass.

You can get the newer version for less than $300 used. Sample pic with my D600...




I'm nearly positive I used it on this photo too...




I can probably dig some other stuff up later -- haven't used it much lately, although...




But that's on b+w film, haha....not a clear representation of what you can do with it on that 24mp sensor.

Not the best lens but I just scored an AF 28-85 f/3.5-4.5 (w/ Macro setting) as part of a give-away. KEH has a few in the $120 to $140 range. I intend to use mine as a walk-around on the 750

Some GOOD choices have been listed here! Remember that at f/8 many inexpensive moderate zoom lnses lenses are quite close to the same as the 24-70 AF-S type lenses, due to the sharpness rtobbing effects of diffraction at f/8! Cheap,old AF-D lenses can make pretty good images on the 24-MP Nikon bodies; one of the better things about 24-MP FX is that it does not "stress the optics" to a really high degree.

For inxpensive lenses, 28-80mm AF-D is okay at f/8! I still shoot mine of the D610. Same with 35-70 f/3.3~4.5 AF-D. These are like $30-$45 lenses used, and can be bought all over the web/CL/etc..
