I usually use the 10-22 UWA lens for landscapes and wide shots But today, I installed it on a 50D and experimented on some flower shots. What do you think? My bad there. Set my aperture to f/8 only. I should have done it at f/12.

Very well done 2nd one is more clear, 1st one is little blury on the edges of flower

I think that is chromatic aberration, and now that i look at both shots more closely, they both have the aberration.

why did you want to shoot at f12? f8 looks fine to me.

I usually stop down to f/12 when doing close up shots for a much deeper DOF. At f/8, the petals are soft since I focused at the center of the flower. Anyway, its just a fun shoot and wanted to prove to myself that I can still use the UWA lens on other subjects, not just landscapes.

why are you using a wide angle lens for macro photography? i dont understand the f12 either. i would have used something much lower to get a faster shot and a better bokeh behind the subject.

Different strokes for different folks!

Very nice!

I dont think stopping down would get the petals in focus. It appears that they are soft because of the chromatic aberration, which is a function of the glass (the physical properties), not the f stop.

I think if you stopped down more you might actually LOSE sharpness, due to diffraction and increased aberration.

That was the main reason for this fun shoot - finding other uses of the lens other that what it is normally used for. As I said on my first post, I normally use the glass for ultra wide landscapes or a bunch of people in a tight space or hip shooting. Finding other uses like this one make the glass a whole lot versatile and I never thought I could use it for flower shots and small subjects. I love this glass

Interesting, don't think I've ever seen wide-angle macro shots before. They look good though!

thanks for the comments, guys. appreciate it. and loving my UWA glass even more.

Learn something new everyday.
I can definitely see that in action on both photos.
