That's right! I said it!

Panasonic, Sony and Canon have each donated Yen300 million ($3.6 million) to various relief organisations while Nikon has donated Yen100 million ($1.2 million).

Looks like Nikon isn't selling as many D3x as hoped. :er:

Yeah, the worth of an organization should be based on the amount of their donations.

Woooooohoooooooo!!! Another NIKON vs CANON thread! This time at the expense of the entire country of Japan and the tragedy they are facing.

Nice.

Nikon is also the smallest of the companies (much smaller). They don't do TV's, stereos, or printers / copiers. It would not be right to expect the same level from Nikon as from the others!

I just looked up 2009 reports for Nikon and Canon. Canon at 3.2 Trillion Yen in revenue for 2009. Nikon had 880 Billion Yen in revenue for 2009.

So going by 2009 results. Nikon actually gave a higher percentage of their yearly revenue than Canon did!! In math almost .0002% more of their revenue.

Canon .00009375% of total revenue, Nikon .00011363% of total revenue.

For Canon to equal the same percentage of Revenue vs given amount. Canon would have to give 363,000,000 yen.

Sony is much worse. They had 7.729 Trillion Yen in revenue in 2009. They should be upwards of 878,000,000 yen to match Nikon!!

Panasonic by far gave the lowest 8.177 trillion Yen in revenue in 2009. They should have been 929,000,000 yen to match Nikon!!!

So, I don't think Nikon is the one to be poking. Nikon and Canon is really in line. The other 2 is a different story. This does not consider what each gives normally through the year. Just this case.

Its amazing what happens when you actually look at the data rather than just the numbers isn't it?

Either way the OP is way off base. If you want to help the Japanese people make a donation TO THE JAPANESE PEOPLE. Buying Canon gear isn't going to make their initial contribution to the relief effort any larger. If you buy Canon products, you are supporting Canon, not the efforts regarding the tragedy in Japan.

I don't think the OP was completely serious here, but those numbers do turn the tables!!! Nice try Mom..(or did you get your window decal replaced now)

How much have you donated should be the question!

Their biggest factory just floated away in the wake of the tsunami, and they lost lots of employees. But good call anyway :er:

(and they'll be fine...they're Nikon) ;)

*edited to spell "their" correctly....lol*

I have not sent any money. But I did go give blood for the first time in a very long time!

I am not mocking MohaimenK either. Quite a few people don't realize Nikon as a corporation is not the same size company as the others they compete against. Just over a 1/3 the size of Canon. And 1/10 the size of Sony and Panasonic. I think they are doing pretty good for themselves considering they don't have the extra revenue from other divisions helping their photography line. Not that they need it as it was their most profitable division anyway.

Ichiro Suzuki donates 100 million yen to Japans recovery effort. If anything this should make all the camera companies stop patting themselves on the back for donating what they did. A single baseball player matched Nikons, 1/3 of what Canon donated, and 1/3 of what giant companies like Sony and Panasonic donated. I would wager the CEO of each of the companies could have covered what their companies donated, just from their bonuses from the previous year.

Who cares whos selling more ?
They are donating to a serious cause, dosent matter if one company sells more products than the other.

It feels so good to donate!......I'm donating to the Pearl Harbor Memorial Musuem.....
