One thing to point out though. Original owner does not mean original purchaser.
If Original purchaser buy a Canon lens and use it for 2 month without register it, then he/she sell the lens to another person with the receipt.
The 2nd owner can still go to Canon for service claiming to be the original owner. It is because he/she can claim that the original purchaser bought the lens and give it to him/her as a gift, so the 2nd owner now become the original owner (not original purchaser).
To claim the warranty service from Canon, Canon only look for the invoice. And the invoice does not even need to by issued by Canon Authorized dealer as long as it is not a refurbished nor grey market product.
