Hi, I've read a bunch and tried to learn from the pics I've seen posted here. I'm posting before and after pics where I have tried to correct what I though took away from the pics so if you have advice about that I would appreciate that also. These were taken with a Tamron 70-300 without IS on a Canon T4i. The shots were from 200-300mm. I used shutter priority of 1000 to try to freeze any motion like water splashes or wing movement. I pushed the ISO up to 800 and the camera put the aperture from 4.5 to 5.3. The sky was mostly cloudy so the pictures were not as sharp as I would have liked. Most of the pics were from 30-75 feet away.

I've read where people say this is not that sharp of a lens and looking at many of my shots at 100 percent I would agree. There are some though that look decent even at full or nearly full size. I think I have to get a sunny day and try to back off of the zoom to the 200 range and get the ISO lower to get better sharpness. ( I cant complain though, I picked this lens up for 15 bucks at a pawn shop auction. They were moving and this was one of the things that ended up being auctioned.) I wonder though, when the golden hour seems to be the optimal shooting light for color and shadow, if that doesn't put me shooting in lower light and getting softer pictures. Are Bird pictures typically better taken in bright sunlight or do I have to tell my wife that I need to go buy a 4K lens so my birds will look sharp in less than bright light. If I do tell her that I'm pretty sure that my birds will just have to be blurry...

Thanks!

Jeff
