Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hello all. I am a new user of these forums. I just bought my first DSLR this week and it is the first camera I have ever owned besides a cellphone camera.

I am very interested in photography and was hoping you can all help point me in a direction of taking better shots.

Here is one of my first few shots. I still don't have a tripod so I haven't experimented as much as I would like.

BeaUtiful Orchid. Stunning color.

If you force me to find flaw, the only thing I could say, half heartedly, is maybe crop some of the dead space on the left.

Thanks! It took me about 25 shots to get this one.

I'd hate to see what the other 24 looked like, if you picked this as your best.

Truthfully, not feeling it. Small dof doesn't work here and the random piece of flower in upper right hand corner doesn't work imo.

PS: lol Bitter.

What so funny?

It's a decent image. I've seen much worse here in regards to flower shots.
Without a tripod, it will be difficult to get a sharp image, handheld at a smaller aperture.

pretty substandard shot of a flower, nothing to be real excited about. but again, im so tired of flower photography that i pretty much don't have anything constructive to say

So, what makes a "flower shot" exciting?
And don't respond "find a different angle".

I respect your opinion, and everyone else's. I just want to be better. What don't you like? The composition? Lighting?

Things that could be done to improve this shot are: -sharp focus (understanding you don't have a tripod available yet), better lighting; try a diffuser and consider a polarizing filter to eliminate the glare on the rear petals which is causing the desaturated appearance.

not really sure how to answer that questions tbh...

but i will say that mishele's flower photos are the only type of floral photography that I actually find refreshing, just because she makes them less of the flower and more of the abstract

Hmmmm....the dead space to be cropped is a good recommendations...I would like to see more of the flower in focus rather than just the bright center of that large middle flower...I would also like to see brighter colors as well...the photo seems a bit flat overall...

Thanks for the input. I am kind of bummed I don't have access to these flower any longer. I would like to shoot them again to try and get some better results.

I see what you mean, she does excellent work.

:sexywink:
Hahahahaha, I wondered if she would come up in this conversation.
I don't consider her images to be exciting flower shots, or images of flowers.
*ducks*
Mishele makes exciting abstract images, using flowers as the subject in which she finds interesting compositions.

My question is tough. I am searching for an answer as well.
But if we know what is boring, shouldn't we know what isn't?
