I've been doing a lot of portrait work lately for companies, and I was getting very sick of doing the same old portrait orientation / even lighting / corporate stuff so I decided to have some fun. I could spend a bit longer on the post processing and really fine tune the splatters so they look perfect, but I do not think this image really needs it! Let me know what you think

The left half of the frame is totally wasted.

You do not need to use a portrait orientation every single time, and in this case given the subject's head is directed off camera left extra space on the left is given to allow the viewer wandering room. The extra space is quite intentional and is also there to help balance out the contrast of the right side with negative space. Portrait orientation left a crowded feeling in my opinion.

Kerbouchard, that comment is useless.

I think it's a beautiful shot and very well thought out, I like it. IMHO, art is not accounting so rules are often guidelines than anything. It's fun to break free from the guidelines once in a while.

I think it works as is.

Well, my sensibilities tell me to add some space above her head. But you know...

^^ Same exact thought I had when I first saw the photo.

I like the picture, but I agree with the above comments. My mind is filling in the rest of the head and knows that it is cut off. You need more space above the face to allow for the rest of the subjects head, even if it is completely hidden in shadows.

Bitter: Now that you mentioned it, the head space is quite bothersome. I added some extra room up top, thanks!

I was thinking too much dead space to the left & after reading the above comments I agree not enough above her head. However, if it is to your liking that's what counts.

Okay, the lighting is either too small or too far away. Much too harsh for my tastes. It looks like the main light was a bit low. The floating head thing doesn't do it for me. And then there are the obvious compositional problems everybody else pointed out. I find the subject and title of this thread to be tasteless. IMO, this is meant for shock value, and the look at me, I'm a troubled artist.

It is not an image I enjoyed and if you wouldn't have named this thread something so ridiculously misleading, I would have never clicked on it in the first place.

I think the splatter's are a little to fake looking for me. The lighting and such is nice, but the splatters make it seem.. "tacky."

This would totally work as a wallpaper. But the splatter looks a bit post processing rather than real blood...

Edit: Oh nevermind. You already know the blood looks fake :P Nice job none the less
