C&C: Portrait of an Innocent Girl

Shmne I think your pic did exactly what you wanted it to do... get people talking. I think its interesting & if people dont like it & are not giving c&c in some what of a polite or constructive manner they can simply move on... As you said art is art, no need to be rude. You can't please everyone... obviously! ::chuckle::

I don't want to be involved in all the drama, but I just wanted to be on the OP's side and say that I really like the picture! I think that the space to the left actually adds to the composition of this picture and what he was trying to achieve. If you were to crop out the space to the left, I feel as though the picture wouldn't achieve the same effect.

As I have learned from posting on this forum in the few short days I have been a part of it, people are not going to like the same things you do. People have different styles and some are more artistic while others are more about the "rules". I believe that photography is subjective and if you don't have a helpful critique or comment, just click the back button and move along.

Yeah, I agree with the above comments about not enough space above her head and the blood splatters need to be processed a bit more. Maybe smoothed out or something? It doesn't look realistic. Other than that... I liked how you tried something different. I am tired of the same old portraits. Check out this guy's work. He does some really unique, crazy people photos. I want to step outside the box, but don't have anyone I know willing to do what I'd like to do lol.

Thank you for the C&C, it appears the 2 biggest flaws I need to improve would be to increase head room and process the blood a little better. I was paying homage to the over-the-top style people like Quentin Tarantino have, however I think to really make that work I would have to make the blood look sillier which I am not willing to do. Instead I am going to process the entire image a bit better.

I appreciate the comments :)

I like it. The title actually made me think a bit. Poor EMT must have been upset after losing a patient and working so hard to control the bleeding. The quiet contemplation in her eyes is complimented by the emptiness in her eyes and the missing background to the left where the patient is... I dunno that is what I thought of...

Shmne lives! lol

Very entertaining thread(It's the TPF way )...I was hooked in by the fifth post and just had to read it through.

I guess stock photography doesn't count as the negative space seems to be discounted to often around these parts.
Even as a stand alone I still appreciate the non-conventional orientation.

The harsh lighting or edit you did here just goes with the theme, I just don't think a soothing characteristic fits.

With mostly her face covered by the mask, and the eyes being the only one showing expression - to me I just wish the right eye had little more lighting to show for that
cold blooded look. That's just nit pick city talking though.

I personally like it alot.

You'll need to improve not only on the look of the blood, but also on the spray pattern. PracticaLLY any CSI episode will show you this. It doesn't click IMO. If I remember correctly, Chiller made a concoction that worked great for real looking blood. I would search him in the Dark Side gallery. I would also clone out the eyebrow ring because it really screws with the pattern of the catchlights. Otherwise, I think her gaze into the lens is brilliant.

I really love the picture. The only thing I can say is that the blood looks too photoshopped in. The blood looks really flat. A real blood splatter would bead and drip on parts. It looks as if the blood is painted on instead of splattered on. Just my 2 cents.

hmm...maybe adding a SLIGHT texture to it would work? Like a slight bumpy skin texture?

exactly

This is a pretty large thread now but I was actually going for a campy look :) I didn't want it to look too realistic as I absolutely love Quentin Tarantino's style of blood. I still reworked it a little bit as I felt the blood looked out of place, more than anything. Everyone gave me some good advice so I wanted to post an updated version of the file, I re-textured the blood, got rid of the catch light from the eyebrow ring, added some extra grit, reworked the lighting a bit, and reworked the color (no one mentioned anything about that but it was bothering me a bit.)

I'll also include the original, as we didn't have time to do a posed shot... I had only 3 images captured before she had to get back to work, but I knew exactly what I was looking for and she was quite compliant! You'll notice this original file was actually quite poorly photographed, the other 2 were flawless except she didn't have the expression I wanted. Thank you all for the kind words, and I hope you enjoy the rework :)

My problem is I don't like the shot. I don't think it's art. I would rather not look at a picture of a girl splattered in blood, and I don't appreciate misleading thread titles.

If the OP would have named the thread, "Low Key Portrait of girl covered in blood", than I would have never been at this thread in the first place and I wouldn't have to be defending myself.

Whatever. The OP is now on ignore and I am done with this thread.

Visit my thread, I swear it's legit ;)http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/...allery/247770-my-second-maternity-thread.html
Shme, Vtec44 I get it now.

Shme, my first thought was this would be good also as a medical/sugical picture then read down to find that was what it was. I like it.

You really took a ballsy artistic shot with this one and I really like both versions for what you have said about them.

Thank you once again for the comments, I really appreciate the extra views on my work. I'm glad that this experiment and break from normalcy was successful!

Kerbouchard, that comment is useless.

Okay, the lighting is either too small or too far away. Much too harsh for my tastes. It looks like the main light was a bit low. The floating head thing doesn't do it for me. And then there are the obvious compositional problems everybody else pointed out. I find the subject and title of this thread to be tasteless. IMO, this is meant for shock value, and the look at me, I'm a troubled artist.

It is not an image I enjoyed and if you wouldn't have named this thread something so ridiculously misleading, I would have never clicked on it in the first place.

I lolled, especially at the ignorance. That was the best part.
