C&C

However the reason I have a UV filter on my lens is b/c I will happily replace a UV filter if it gets scratched. I will shit out a small animal if I scratch my lens and have to replace it.

The only comment I'll add (because I have derailed her thread, and I apologize) is these aren't your fathers optical coatings. Optical coatings today are much harder and much more durable than what was used 20 or 30 years ago. Of coarse it's possible to scratch a lens, but again, IMO, it's not as easy as a lot of people think.

OK, lets put this back on track. If you wish to further discuss this, we can happily go to PM.

On the note of the lens hood, I completely agree. However the reason I have a UV filter on my lens is b/c I will happily replace a UV filter if it gets scratched. I will **** out a small animal if I scratch my lens and have to replace it.

You would have a heart attack if you looked in my camera bag... Half the lens caps are usually fallen off and lenses are thrown everywhere lol. No UV filters either. My gear goes through a lot. However I'm not too worried about a small scratch on my lens, it wouldn't effect the pictures.

Technically speaking, they are my GRANDFATHER'S optical coatings.

Not to be nitpicky but you spelt photography wrong on the 2nd picture.

You pretty much have to be a total idiot to scratch a lens. They are a lot tougher than many people give them credit for. LensRentals.com - Front Element Scratches

Even the best UV filters are made from a lower quality type of glass, and generally have much less duarable lens coatings than even inexpensive kit lens front lens elements. That's why filters have such huge profit margins.
