Camera for action shots in the $750 price range

I've done a fair share of research but I'm a rookie when it comes to photograpghy and I could use lots of advice as to what camera would best meet my needs. Although I'll be using the camera for a variety of phototypes but I'm really looking for one with continuous shooting capablities so I can capture pics of my dogs when they're playing outdoors. I'm looking for something in the $750 price range but would be willing to go higher if need be. Also, are there certain accessories I ought to buy with it? Thank you!

Do you want an interchangeable lens camera - DSLR?

If so, lens choice can be as important as choosing a camera body. A decent to good lens can cost as much or more than the camera.

Your budget puts you in the market for a middle of the category entry-level DSLR like a Nikon D5100 camera body plus a lens like the one above.

Or a Canon T4i with a kit lens (not offered body only) - Canon EOS Rebel T4i 18.0 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55mm EF-S IS II Lens

Pentax has some nice cameras too.

I would also recommend Nikon D5100 or Nikon D3200.
Canon T4i isnt not a bad choice either.

All these cameras should be in your price range.

Sony A57 is what you're looking for. 10fps compared to 3 or 4 and continuous auto focus. You simply will not find another DSLR (aside from the a65) sub $1000 that comes close in terms of fps or AF.

Hmmm I forgot about this camera and I whole heartly agree, for sports for the moeny this is an excellent camera.
Dell has some pretty good deals on this camera.

You can get one for $800 with the 18-135mm lens which would be a good start for sports.

Otherwise you could get it with the standard kit lens for $650. Or body only for $550 and pick your own zoom.

But generally for sports, you want a little bit of reach.

Why even go the DSLR route. Doesn't look like the OP researched much at all. Sorry to come off as a jerk but "fair share of research" as you described is comparable to Faux News. Just get the Canon S110 and call it a day. High burst mode allows 10 shots continuous and is a wonderful compact powerhouse. So that topped with a decent tripod and camera care accessories and you'll be set under your price, if you want new that is. Or just utilize any search engine and type in "camera reviews". Most sites now breakdown areas from what you want to what you actually need. GL

Maybe he wants high IQ pictures. Not pictures out of a P&S.

Secondhand canon 40d, 6.3 fps and great autofocus and image quality, the money left over should afford you a nice secondhand lens in your required focal length

Yes I think this is enough for a basic picture taking.
The nice thing about DSLR is that in time you learn to use it and then if you want to add a flash or lens or tripod or what ever you can.
As long as you have the base which is a camera with a lens you are good to go.
My first DSLR was the Sony a300 with their base zoom lens I got with the camera and that was all I needed.
I did get few more lenses but I found I never used them (except the Macro lens which I used on rare occasions).

You might in the future want to get a 50mm Prime lens but those cost around 150$-200$ and thats not a lot of money.
Sony cameras has an inbody IS which makes their lenses cheaper compared to Nikon VR lenses and Canon IS lenses.

Who said anything about spray and pray? It's simple math that would with higher FPS you can capture more of the action.
