Sold my T1i+kit lens+ some other randoms for a good price a few weeks ago and bought a used 40D on amazon that night. Got it only to learn that there was something wrong with the shutter. My craigslist sale fell through and now I'm still riffling through the pages of the interwebs looking for another 40D. You would think there are a ton right?! well, yes and no, Im scared to buy one on ebay because most sellers specifically list No returns/refunds. I can understand this but i do not want to get myself into another scenario where something isn't working properly and the seller either doesn't know its defective or something happens during shipping and I'm stuck with a camera that needs repair. I have found a few on canon digital forum, they have an excellent classifieds section but again, I'm a bit weary of having the camera shipped.

2 questions, #1 there is a 40D for sale from someone who was using it as a backup. He has been around the canon digital forum a while and seems reputable but the shutter has been replaced by canon. Should i steer clear of this sale or is the replaced shutter no big deal? it comes in good condition with a canon grip, body cap, charger and 2 batteries, shipped for $475

Question #2 HOW THE HELL DO I PASS THIS TIME? I CAN'T TAKE NOT HAVING A CAMERA ANYMORE I JUST CAN'T DO IT SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!

-Sorry for the rant, no one around here can understand my pain in being camera-less :(

1 -- I don't think it's a bad thing that the shutter has been replaced. They all will fail at some time or another. Think of it as buying a car with a recently overhauled engine. That's a pretty good price, by the way, especially if it comes with a genuine Canon grip.

2 -- You can break out your cell phone and take emo girl photos of yourself and post them on Facebook to pass the time.

Yeah, i just don't know much about shutter replacement. There are 17K snaps on the new shutter that was replaced in october 2010.

Rifle through your hard drive and do some post-processing.

Yeah i've been editing some stuff here and there but all my "quality" shots have pretty much been pp'd to my content already. I have some great ideas for some shoots and my patience is growing thin.

They're supposedly rated for 100,000 activations (giving you about 80% of its expected life left), but shutters can go at any time on any camera, so it's not really something to fret over.

Have you checked the used department at b&h and adorama? You will get a warranty and have recourse if something is wrong and their prices are not far off what you would pay on eBay.

In my city the Camera Store has a used section and has a bunch of great stuff very well priced. You should see if where you live have something similar or try a pawn shop? A guy I went to school with got a camera some lenses and an external flash super cheap.

My local camera store doesn't have any 40D's i've called like 4 times in 2 weeks haha

Has anyone bought used from B&H with a rating of 7? it's described as "Shows considerable amount of use - More than average wear" the price is only $400 +$10 for shipping.
