Everything was fine, I took the memory card out to xfer pics last night, and when I went to put it back in the camera it didn't fit (wouldn't go in). I figured I'd look in the morning and see, and now the camera won't even go on.

Any ideas? :(

Provided you are putting the card in the right way around if its the CF type cards chances are you've managed to bend one of the pins - which would explain why the card wouldn't fit inside and might also cause the cameras software to get confused and not turn on if the bent pin is contacting another.

Yeah it was in the right direction. I think it might be a bent pin too because the mem card looks like one of the holes was stretched (for lack of a better term). Is it safe to try to bend the pin back myself?

Who knows? You never said what kind of memory card.

If you are very careful and have a pair of very thin tweezers you might be able to bend the pin back into position - you'll want some good light down the slot to work with as well. It's worth a try since any repair work will be the same cost for a bent or broken pin (far as I know they'll dismantle and replace the pin assembly )

ok, thanks.

Update: Fixed!! Indeed a pin was bent into another pin, which thanks to a tiny screwdriver I un-bent. As for the camera not working at all, that's a strange one - I put in the backup battery and it worked fine.

However, the battery was full last night when I turned it off (even if I didn't it has an auto-off), and a dead battery will still tell me to change the battery. So I have no idea how that one got so completely drained like that. I'm charging it now, and will see how it is tomorrow morning, but that's a weird one. Unless I left the door of the memory slot open and that somehow drains the battery... Anyway camera works, so yay!

I would suspect that the bent pin had more to do with the camera not starting up than the battery. Sometimes if a device has a problem like that, the software "locks up" until you remove the battery and reset the internal computer. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it happens again, then it might be time to investigate further. Also, pay close attention to the mystery battery to see if it always happens when that battery is in, or if it happens with either. With any luck, it just won't happen again period!
