Camera Noob, pics included.

I see posts like this and I honestly don't know how to respond. This sounds harsh, and that's not my intent either, but there is no value to these images. They are underexposed, without composition and painful to look at. That's the bad news.

The good news is you like taking photos and everybody starts at the beginning so take this as an opportunity to learn, to totally immerse yourself in this subject and keep shooting. Your images will get better.

Mind you--if you keep posting photos like that in this forum, you'd better have THICK skin because you'll get slaughtered.

Ill Keep my honest responce to myself regarding your comments. The camera was a gift I fancy a new hobbie, so I guess this could be it. I am actually very thick skinned due to the nature of my job, however comments like yours and others can be very off putting, constructive advise is brilliant but there is a fine line, like you say we all start at the bottom. In regards to PAINFUL to look at come off it. Its a site which encourages new starts and all people who have an interest in taking pics and you say its painful I feel its to much.
By the sounds of things your picture taking is above and beyond the noob stage so you should maybe mingle in the more advance sections. My friend you wouldnt know the meaning of slaughtered. Its picture taking not a street fight. Please think about how you word things as if it stays the same as your not the only one its going to ruin future people wanting to give this a go.

If you use P mode you can note the settings the camera uses becuase they are displayed in the viewfinder.

You can then consider those settings the camera choose based on the scene you shot.

You also have to conside which of the available reflected light metering modes are being used.

Yes thanks for that im reading up and slowly understanding what all the settings mean and how to apply them to my camera to get the best shot.

Painful--that maybe was a bit harsh. My apologies. "Not good" may have been a better description. I'll stop there.

My photos are not great--I've taken 50,000 photos in the past 7 years. I've only been serious about photography for the past year. I look at my old photos and they are not good--snapshots, really. In the past 6 months, however, I've taken about a half dozen that I'm proud to call my own. Live and learn.

Take the UV filter off your lens.

Sean I too am a beginner and in regards to what jwbryson has said, I agree with him, the pictures I have personally posted aren't great I am well aware of that however I did think about them before I took them and also before posting them I had another look just to make sure what I put on the forum isn't what a lot of people class as 'snapshots' he isn't been rude or horrible to you or any new people he was only saying that if you wish to progress as become better you need to be able to take criticism on the chin and accept what people say, some times people are wrong but chances are someone taking pictures for 10 years of there life will usually have a good idea of what looks good or not and what you can improve on.

to an amature eye it looks good. I have a baby too well he two now but still a baby(ish).

I'm going to use Auto for a month or two and scrap manual until I get used to the camera more. I have loads of time to learn and that i will do

Sean as a beginner myself I don't think using Auto for a month or so is going to work out all that well, you may become reliant on it and never learn the manual part of your camera, I would start with manual and learning the 3 main aspects of it.

Correct, I personally found it hard to get an initial understanding however once you understand the start of it then it becomes much easier. I wouldn't give up learning something because you may find it too tricky.

i see what u mean auto aint the best compared to others but its not the worst in the world.

Yeah I like the model buses as well, knowing and understanding how each setting can impact the photo is very important and my photos are no where near what other people are capable of but I am still a beginner of a total of 3 days and still have much to learn but personally I prefer how my photos come out with manual settings compared to auto settings, you are right that auto settings isn't the worst in the world but manual is a lot better.
