I am very new to the world of photography and have been reading as much as I can, but sometimes I need input from experienced photographers. I am shooting with a beginner Canon dslr... I own a 50mm f1.8, 18-55mm, and a 55-250 lens. I would like to know which of these lenses you would use and which aperture and iso settings you would use to shoot an outdoor group photo.... I have six children and a very large family. I understand a smaller aperture for greater focus area right? We have a family reunion coming up and it is very important that I get this figured out before then. Thank you so much for any of your help!!!

For most group photos, I used a 24-85 mm zoom lens. The bigger the group the less focal length I used.

Yes, you need to use a smaller aperture, like f/8.

A bigger issue is planning for having good light.

Use your kit (18-55) lens at about 30mm. I'd avoid going wider. Use f/8. If the camera is focused to 20', then everything from about 10' to infinity will be in focus.
