Camera Straps

I have been considering getting a camera strap (BlackRapid) but have heard the snap rubs the bottom of the camera or lens. Is this something to be concern about, just normal wear and tear? Any any other camera strap suggestions?

Check out the Carry Speed. I chose it over the BlackRapid because it doesn't lose a tripod socket when in place and there is a little safety strap that connects the camera lug to a non-opening part of the strap, and provides a little insurance. I have read on TPF recently about valuable equipment hitting the floor due to BlackRapid straps coming loose. Both straps work cross-body, and my Carry Speed has always been easy to use - the camera slides up the strap very smoothly.

Black Rapid straps come with a piece that gets screwed into the camera's tripod mounting threads. The strap then attaches to that with a small carabiner.

I used Black Raid straps for several years and they contributed zero, none, nada wear to the bottom of the cameras I used them on.

I use a black rapid on my gripped 5D1, and have had no markings or wear associated with the tripod mount or the bottom of the grip. I've also never had an issue where I'd been afraid of loosing my gear due to a strap failure.

i hate straps, the original strap i had i would just wrap it around my wrist, the 2nd i had was a copy of blackrapid strap form optech. I felt the optech blackrapid style strap got in the way if i had a camera bag, if it was a backpack style bag i now had 3 straps, a sling style bag i would be overlapping the straps or going in a X pattern. What i did was attach a keyring to my bag straps and use a Caribeener to attach my camera to my bag strap when i need hands free. I also have a wrist strap on the other side of the camera when i am actually shooting for security.

I found that over time I got sick of the camera strap. It was always in the way it seemed. I now use this and love it:

Ha. You describe exactly what I used to do. The straps are very annoying. I just have a heavy duty wrist strap that came with a P&S from eBay that I'm using currently. But I am impressed by the carryspeed as well.

My choice is an Optech strap with quick disconnects, PLUS a hand strap on my gripped 60D.

When shooting, my hand strap carries the weight of the camera, and I wrap the neck strap in such a way that it ends up and 'locks' around my thumb and I couldn't shake the camera off my hand if I wanted to!...even with "the brick", 24-70 f2.8L on it! I discovered the wrap-technique quite by accident last summer, looking for a way to get the neck strap out of the way while walking around in downtown Chicago taking pictures.

When packed up or on a tripod, I simply disconnect the neck strap using the fast disconnects and the strap is out of the way.
