cameras flash keeps popping up even with another flash attached...

so i attached my moms old sunpak softlite 1600A flash to my new nikon d80...when i take a picture the flash thats built in to my camera still pops up, and that fires instead of the attached one.....how to fix this?

Use a PSAM mode. As far as I'm aware, the pop-up will always pop up with the PhD (Push here, Dummy) modes that need flash.
 
Well since there is no TTL communication between the flash and the camera with that combination there is no way for the camera to even know that theres a flash on there. You will need an sb-400/600/800 for that

auto mode on a nikon d80... in "beyond the basics"

lol

By the way, I know know how much power the Sunpak has but you're likely to kill a digital camera by throwing random flashes for film cameras on it.
