Can a Nikon TTL remote cord be used with a Canon?

Hi,

I have a SC-28 Nikon TTL remote cord from my old Nikon, and was wondering if it could be used with my Canon 30d and 580ex? I hooked it up to my camera, and it seemed to work, but was curious if it will not be communication properly between the camera and the flash.

Certainly the flash will fire but I doubt if any of the automation will function.

Personally I would avoid using this combination. Even if you have used it a couple of times that doesn't mean you will not cause problems in the future.
