Candid for your C&C

There is a lot of technical stuff that could be mentioned but what I am missing is why?
yes, it's an ear, in focus, etc.
but typically candid images are showing me something special to look at and this is just an ear.

My question would be what are you wanting us to see in this image? And what sort of C&C are you looking for?

I don't see this as a candid. That is, even if it were posed, the viewer wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The composition places the apparent subject (earrings ?) in the centre--kind of boring.

I don't know--in a candid photo, or most photos in general, I want some kind of expression. Or if not an expression I want some kind of juxtaposition (two or more elements with some kind of relationship with one another).

This shot gives me nothing to think about--it's a product shot of earrings.

Oops..

The ear. Not traditionally the prettiest part of the female body...

If every body had this kind of gentle & welcoming attitude to strict evaluation-sometimes felt harsh- TPF could have avoided many hot exchanges and angry good byes :D

Aliyawar, if you want to use our comments to improve, that is wonderful, but we can help better if we understand what you were trying to achieve, and how you went about doing it. Then, we can share with you our opinions of what we would do to achieve the result or vision you had. The point of this site is for us to help each other.

Thanks.. pgriz ..I appreciate your help.. actually it was bit of a spontaneous shot.. when taking this shot ,i was thinking about that brief moment while talking to someone when something interesting catches your eye...your eyes go to that spot immediately, its all a fleeting moment..because when the next time you try to see the same thing..something is missing..i dont know what ..but you will feel something missing.. this was the idea i was trying to portray in this photograph.. nothing exceptional..very big or unnatural that will catch your attention anyway....just a simple thing with a bit of catchy feel to it..in this pic that thing was the glimmering earrings.... it holds your eyes for a certain moment and then the moment passes away... it is that thing which have your attention in that particular moment..that very spot...it seems isolated from the surrounding when it is actually not...
I think, something went wrong in the execution.. by the way,if you ask me,i still like the picture... :),i dont know why,i just do.. :) ,wheeeew,my fingers are aching.. :) :) :)

Aliyawar, I'm sure you're familiar with the cinema. Something on screen that looks spontaeous and "in the moment" is a result of much careful preparation, staging, lighting, etc. Photography is the same way. YOU may have something catch your eye, and you photograph it. However, we humans have the ability to focus in on something and ignore the surroundings. The camera does not have our ability to do that, and sees everything. So the "trick" photographers use is to try and isolate the element that is attractive, stage it so that the surroundings do not interfere with the element (or even better, support it), light it in a way that highlights the element, and then arrange it in the frame of the image so that there is a visual flow or a balance. We, the photographers, are the directors of the play that is our image. It is up to us to make the necessary arrangements to showcase our "vision". When we present an image to viewers, they can only use the clues we leave in the image to convey to them the emotion or the objective of the image, and therefore it is up to us to exercise that control so that the "message", whatever it is, becomes apparent to the viewer.

In making the transition from a snapshooter to a photographer, I am finding out that careful thought, preparation, and staging is key to improving the quality of my own images. Can't say I've mastered it, but it is a journey that is at times frustrating, and fulfilling, and energizing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the image you posted.

if you ask me,i still like the picture... :),i dont know why,i just do..

You like it in the same way that parents love any picture of their own child - no matter how actually unflattering - because you have this personal emotional overlay through which you are seeing the picture.
The goal of photographers is to create pictures that capture enough of a commonly shared emotional response that even strangers feel the same thing.
