Does anyone know why the door protecting the interface sockets on this camera (and I suspect other Canons) is a funny little piece of rubber with an odd hinge?

It always feels as if it's about to break off.

Edit: I think I've just worked it out. They didn't make it detachable in case it got lost and they made it out of rubber so that it won't break if it gets knocked.

Does that sound about right?

That's how it works on mine. But you're right, it doesn't feel too sturdy does it. No signs it's going to fall off any time soon, but it does seem a little reluctant to stay fully closed these days.

Ah... took me a while to realise which "door" you are talking about, but yes, it has always felt a bit flimsy to me, but I have opened and shut mine ever so often by now, and it is still attached to the camera. At first I would have sworn it'd get torn very soon. It does not. But it no longer closes tightly, either. Or well, does, if I push firmly enough, mind you...

Sweet little question, this one is, :D, I like it! :D
