Canon and Nikon lens question

My friend ended up ordering a Canon 60D and I'm sure with me being a Canon fan helped with that.

I have the 80-200 2.8 AF-D and I think the performance at 2.8 and AF speed are very good. I believe they work very well, even for sports. :er:

I stand corrected. I checked Photozone.de and resolution figures are pretty damn good, even wide open.

Nikon makes pro level zooms for both DX (crop sensor) and FX (full frame). Thom Hogan (Mr. Nikon) has been kind enough to put together the chart for us. This chart also includes the consumer grade lenses. Pick your poison.

Looks like I got all the pro level zooms "correct," though, except for the ancient 80-200 AF-D. But for all intents and purposes, it's a consumer zoom nowadays. Build quality is excellent, though. AF speed and wide open performance... not so much.

Sorry, but the 80-200mm AF-D performs as well wide open as any f2.8 zoom I've ever used. It blows any "consumer zoom" out of the water. The modern 70-200mm VRII lenses are not any better optically from what I can tell.

AF speed is a different matter, I upgraded to an 80-200mm AF-S and there was a remarkable improvement in focus speed. .

Yep would get a big Hiss from many if you made a statement like:

And many pro's still use them as It Is pro glass.
Tho doesn't get razor sharp until f4 just like the 70-200vr version. And is a tad slower AF.
But f2.8 is still sharp.
