Canon Compatible 3rd Party Flash

Now that I am getting more into photography I am realizing the limits of the on camera flash on my Rebel T3. I am looking for a good 3rd party flash that supports TTL and rotates and tilts. What are your thoughts on, and experiences with, various 3rd party flashes? Is it worth the extra money to get the Canon flash? Thanks.

Sigma, Nissin and Metz make some great ones. For the first dedicated flash I would not go Yongnuo, but if you are thinking extra off camera flashes Strobist really recommends the yongnuo flashes.
