The T1i wasn't replaced that long ago, .

The T1i didn't get replaced. It's still listed on Canon's USA web site, and can be bought brand new: Canon EOS Rebel T1i (500D) Digital SLR Kit w/EF-S 3818B002 B&H.

So I played around with this camera today at Best Buy, and fell in love.
I like it even more than the T2i (the camera I've reallllllly been craving).

So I'm curious what you guys would think about it, and how it would compare with say, the 20D, 30D, Xs, XT, etc...

Also, when I get it, should I stick with the kit lens, or a 75-300 telephoto? I mostly like shooting landscape, but as you've noticed I experiment with everything.

Yes, I've read reviews and all that, but was looking for personal experience/knowledge.

Just out of curiosity were you able to get the T1i deal you were talking about??! I am thinking about buying the T3 as well...read great reviews but wasn't pleased with the pros' opinions on this thread!

The Canon XS and T1i have been discontinued by Canon, and are no longer being shown on the Canon USA web site.

But you can still buy them both new, refurbished, and used: Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)

The only difference in specs between a T3 and a T3i is 1080, tilt screen and 6 extra mp. Save your money and get the T3, it uses all EF and EF-S lenses. You could even use L lenses. Those who talk bad about it are usually pros with 60D's and up.

Not really. Another difference is that is missing spot metering, which is something useful for one willing to learn. Another one is viewfinder size, but not drastically different. Both "features" are inherited from Xs.

I would go T2i if possible (because is very close to T3i but less expensive), but also T1i is not that bad, if comparable pricewise with T3.
If not, also T3 is indeed a good choice to start.
