Canon EOS Rebel XS / 1000D

What's the deal with Canon EOS Rebel XS / 1000D? Did the XSI not work out? Is canon getting ahead of themselves?

It's their new entry level ultra-compact camera to compete with the Nikon D40. Plus the XTi/XSi have expericenced enough "feature creep" to now justify an even cheaper model in the lineup.

That's pretty cool. I'm still happy with my XT.
