Canon has the worst...

they should bring a film caninster camera model back too. But instead of film, have light exposable bacon strips.
so if you didn't like your shot, you can eat it instead of throwing it away.
Perfect green, or greasy, photography :)

If they named a camera "Thor's Hammer" I would totally buy it.

If we go by Spinal Tap logic, shouldn't the higher number be the better camera? A D700 is 696 more than a D4... So shouldn't it be 696 louder?

I want one with a mode dial with the following settings: A, T, P, M, 11

Yeah, these names are awful.

Leica has found a good naming scheme for them:

S - Studio
M - Messsucher (Rangefinder)
M-E - Alternative Rangefinder with CCD Sensor
X - ??? Dunno what that stands for; their prime lens APS-C compact
X Vario - Their APS-C compact with a Zoom
C - Their normal compact [mostly a relabled Panasonic really]

And then a "Type" and when the number behind that increases, there have been changes in the Design. But you know what the core idea of the camera is.

Fuji is kind of okay with their higher quality cameras, at least at the moment, too:

X100(s) - APS-C compact
X-Pro<n> - APS-C OVF/EVF
X-E<n> - APS-C EVF only
X-M<n> - APS-C Monitor only
X-A<n> - X-M with different sensor

But the cryptic names of Sony, Canon, Pentax, Nikon etc are just horrible.

For example, Nikon:

D1 -> D1x -> D2x -> D3x
D1H -> D2H -> D2Hs -> D3 -> D3s -> D4
D700
D800
D600 -> D610
D100 -> D200 -> D300 -> D300s
D70 -> D70s -> D80 -> D90 -> D7000 -> D7100
D50 -> D40x -> D60 -> D5000 -> D5100 -> D5200 -> D5300
D40 -> D3000 -> D3100 -> D3200

Good luck remembering all that stuff ...

Hey at least Canon stands true to the "number of digits determines grade of camera" scheme.
No they dont.

Just like Nikon, they TRIED, but they're simply running out of numbers. They only have the decency to at least start "Mark n" to delay the problem a little. But its obvious they'll run out of numbers soon anyway, since they only did that with some cameras.

The core problem is simply that with digital, you get a TON of cameras because of the progression of technology. Thus tons of models to handle. Thus tons of names to make up for them.

Which Canon camera in their current naming scheme doesn't follow the system?

Canon lost me with its wacky different names..

EOS 1100D = Kiss X50 (Japan) = Rebel T3 (America)
EOS 600D = Kiss X5 (Japan) = Rebel T3i (America)
EOS 650D = Kiss X6i = Rebel T4i (America)

:confused:

Once they run out of number to name the camera, they will start a all new camera system. New mounts and new everything. So everybody need to "Reboot" again.

They'll just keep adding "marks".

The 5D MkIXX, lol.

Eventually, they will drop "canon" from the name and call the company 5D.
