Unfortunately as with so many events of this nature, from a photography perspective, it's more of a 'people show' than a 'car show'. Capturing good images when there are so many people and the cars are so close together is challenging to say the least, and to be totally honest, I don't see a lot here to hold my interest.

You are totally right. Cars parked too close together and too many people. I thought the same thing. This is while i was eating a burger and frustrated and bored. I have tried going twice now and always come away with nothing. Thanks for commenting. Always appreciated.

Try really early - car folk are usually early risers. Drop by an hour or two before the show actually opens.

I nailed the focus on the eye

DOF was intentionally shallow here, like the OP experienced the environment was very busy so i delt with it how i pleased.

You could set up on a tripod and take a bunch of identical shots with people in different positions, merge in PS to get rid of the people. Or use ND filters and long exposure to turn the people into ghostly blurs and bring the cars more to the fore.

I agree that it's about details when walking around a car show. If you find a car that you'd really like to shoot, talk with the owner and tell them you'd like to photograph it later that day and offer them images.

These two images are taken at a coffee and cars event that is held here once a month. The cars are parked in a parking lot side by side and there are tons of people.

I spent 10-15 minutes on this car and the details. (a late model Impala)
