I just "fake cropped" the top space wayyyyyy down, by scrolling the image up...might I suggest removing most of the top space on this? I think it really helps to have this one cropped down a centimeter or so, right into to head top of the man on the right....it just really changes the eye flow! Crop right into the man's gray hair, and eliminate the flyaways that stick up...really brings it together, for me at least. I have been enjoying the heck out of some of your most recent pics, Lew. You seem to be scoring pretty well on the people shots!

It kind of reminds me of that Pixar short with the guy playing chess in the park by himself. I think it's just the glasses but still...I like this shot.

I think if you crop the top, you have to crop the bottom as well. There's a balance between the man's face, and the space enclosed by the nearer player's arm and head.

The problem with cropping is I think that the flurry of hair on the top and the elbow on the table with a scant view of something both add to the scene.

You're right.

But then the card part of it doesn't seem too important to the shot.

I definitely agree with no-crop. The frame looks perfect to me as-is, I was just saying that if you take some off the top, you gotta take some off the bottom too.
