Casting Calls

Do you think its right to charge for a casting call say, for example, you are looking for someone to pose for pics in their prom dresses? I want to make some Prom 2011 ads and I need people to pose. Is it right to charge or should the shoot be free? What about casting calls in general? Should/do photographers charge?

You're going to ask someone to pose for you and then tell them they have to pay for the privilege????? Sorry, doesn't compute in my book. If a model calls you for service, you'll charge her. Likewise if you call her for services....

This is a basic TFP rule (Time/Trade for Prints). When ordinary models and ordinary photographers get together, both get copies of the images. When one person's experience and reputation exceeds the other, they get the images or they get paid. In other words, you would not charge your model for the privilege of being photographed by you unless you were hot ****.
