Hey this same thing was in some old B&W movie I watched the other night! (well, not you but some criminal type character LOL) They enlarged the photo and somehow it worked into the plot.

I saw a pro-done headshot today that had basically the same EXACT thing...the 'tog standing in front of a large rectilinear shaped light source, casting a black body outline right in the center of the catchlight!!! Honest, I did.

Nothing pro about this set up! We were supposed to be shooting in the city but it started raining so we stayed inside. The background is a dollar store black posterboard being held up by her little sister! the hair light is a clamp light I clipped onto a mic stand and I couldn't move it!

Here's one with my reflector as a background. Needless to say the entire series is cropped very tight!

Well, except for the hair being a bit plugged up, the lighting is actually soft and workable, and looks like it did not require any post work. If there were a bit more detail in hr hair on the right hand side, this would look pretty "pro" I'd say!

I just bumped the highlights a smidge and cloned a pimple. I wish I could have moved the mic stand to hit the hair in a more flattering way but it is what it is under the circumstances.
Aw shucks. You're too nice. I wish I had brought my other clamp light but I didn't even think I would need to bring the first one! Stupid Texas weather.

I was watching some video where the photographer was using some ridiculously huge parabolic umbrella behind his camera for a key. He actually made a point of saying he must be standing in front of it, where he's going to shoot, when he meters because he's blocking a good portion of the light.
