Hmmmm.

I've quickly become a fan of the stuff you've been posting, but there's something about this photo that's just not blowin' my hair back.

Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, there's just nothing about it that has that "Whoa!" factor for me...

I like it.
The saturation is a little much, but it works for me.

The wow factor I think here, is the dramatic clouds have a lot of detail, but so does the rest of the image.
Perhaps if the clouds funneled around one of the pointy objects in the image, like the peaks of the gates.
This would be tricky, as you'd have to keep good composition, but maneuver the frame to capture it in the angle you want.

But all that is hind-sight.

I like it, and think it would even make a good candidate for B/W with some crunchy contrast. :)

I have a black and white from another angle if you would like to see

$Gate23.webp I also wouldn't mind posting 3 RAW files for everyone to edit at their own will, what is the best way to post the RAW files on here?

The processing is good. I think the composition is what hurts the shot.

I am pretty good taking feedback on my images, can you elaborate more than the comp hurts the image? how so? what would you have done differently? Thanks for the compliment on the processing.

I just think the comp isnt pleasing to the eye. Little too much tension, with the odd angle along with the distortion from the wide angle lens. Shot with a lens that wasnt so wide or, more straight on would have been much more pleasing. Thats just my opinion.

The perspective distortion is making the gate look like it's about to fall over. The closes part of the gate on the image's right side is really soft.

I like the theory of having the left side as foreground, but I think given those two faults, it'd probably be better cropped out.

Some like it some don't, I wasn't going for the norm, I like to get outside of the box. This is more of an art not just a simple photograph.

I get that, sorta, but it's not really outside the box, it's just perspective distortion and edge softness. Anybody who has ever shot at an angle with a 10mm has experienced it.

You know what I mean, there is a box in photography, with what is considered properly exposed, focused, cropped, processed.... the list goes on. I am not saying that I invented something here. Is everyone on the forum argumentative?

No, we are just trying to give you perspectives on how viewers are likely to approach your work. You can say that's exactly how you intended it. But that's not going to change the fact that most viewers will look at it and just think "oh, kinda pretty, but the gate looks like it will fall over"

If you're going for sweeping and dramatic, with wild perspective distortion, that might have worked. But you hit the awkward middle ground. If that's the effect you were going for, you should have gotten even closer, shot from an even lower angle and exaggerated the perspective distortion to the max. While that wouldn't be anything new, it would then seem purposeful. Whereas, even if this is exactly what you intended, most viewers will just see it as you 'messing up'.
