Chickens are actually really cool birds; and there's some interesting images, but watch your position with respect to the ambient light. #2 especially suffers from high contrast and blown highlights. Spot metering and/or some compensation might have really saved this image.

In a high contrast shot would you suggest metering for the highlights, or just avoiding the position altogether? I appreciate the feedback.

If possible a different position, but if that's not feasible, then meter to allow for them.

hmmm, I don't think I can get away with claiming intentionally blown highlights for artistic reasons, so... Point well taken and valued!

These are my sisters chickens. I guess she has about 30. They range free most of the day and roost in two big coops at night. The eggs are amazing. Chickens are, too.
